We are located in downtown Stephens City, at 5291 Main Street. Take Interstate I-81, exit 307, and go west two blocks to the traffic light (intersection of 277 and US 11). Turn right (north), and the church is two blocks on your left. Parking is available in the rear of the building.

Food Pantry Food Drive
Food Pantry Food Drive continues throughout October- SCUMC is holding a food drive for our food pantry. Needed items are: cereal, boxed potatoes, pastas, rice, peanut butter, canned meats; (tuna, corned beef hash, chicken, ham, vienna sausages) soups, dish detergent, soap, toilet paper. We also would like to be able to offer homeless/transient people a backpack full of items. Therefore if you're willing to give backpacks and can openers that would be greatly appreciated also. Food Pantry carts will be at the Back Door and in the Gathering Area.

Support SCUMC Preschool
Provided for your convenience will be an insert so that you can sign-up for the Martin's A+ Rewards program. Every time you shop at a Martin's grocery store with your BONUSCARD you will be helping the preschool earn cash! After you fill it out just place it in the offering plate or the basket located in the Gathering Area.

SCUMC Preschool Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A
Come out and join us on Tuesday, October 14th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Chick-fil-A on Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester. Everyone is invited to attend this special event. A portion of the proceeds will go to SCUMC Preschool.

UMW Board Meeting
There will be a UMW board meeting, Oct 14 from 6 - 6:30pm. The UMW will be making and sending care packages for college students and service members. Notice the time change as there is a charge conference at 7PM.

Just4Kidz Afterschool Program
The Just4Kidz Afterschool Program is in need of a volunteer on Wednesday from 3:45-6:00. The program is for children in grades K-5 and the time goes very quickly since they play outside, have snack, do homework and then a short activity if any time is remaining. Contact Cathy Ritter at 540-303-3676 if you can help with this important project.

The Lunch Bunch
The Lunch Bunch will meet October 15th - Anyone who might enjoy some fellowship and good food with other nice people is invited. There is no other agenda for the gathering. Everyone is responsible for the cost of her/his own meal. The Butcher Block very kindly reserves space for the lunch bunch so we need to give them a head count a day ahead of the gathering. Please let us know you are planning to attend by phoning Kathryn Koerner at 540-869-2575 or by e-mail to Waverly Reames at wgreames@aol.com. Don't miss the fellowship, fun, and good food.

Laity Sunday
For Oct 19th, the Laity is pleased to announce that Dr. Tracy Fitzsimmons, President of Shenandoah University will be our Lay Speaker. The special service will be held in the sanctuary at 8:30am. For those who cannot attend this special service, regular services will be held at9:45am and 11:00am.

Phoebe Circle Goes Crafty with Wendy
Phoebe Circle Goes Crafty with Wendy - the Phoebe Circle gals will shine as brightly as the new moon as the experiment with crafts designed especially for them by Wendy Maines. Of course, this endeavor follows lunch and a brief UMW meeting. Plan to gather in Room 102 at 12:30pm. Bring a sandwich/salad and the rest will be provided. We'll be sure to wrap up by 2.

Breakfast is Served by the UMM!
On Oct 25th, the United Methodist Men (UMM) will be serving breakfast in the fellowship hall from 7am to 11am. On the menu are pancakes, sausages, and gravy. Get your ticket(s) from any UMM member and save. Prices of tickets are $5.00 ahead of time and $6.00 at the door.

WATTS News
Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) clients the 3rd week of December (Dec. 15-22.) As you know this takes many servants from setup, welcoming clients each evening, meal preparation, cleaning, etc. So please reserve these dates and consider how you might serve. Our immediate need is for a team that would be willing to organize the volunteers and meals for the week clients are staying at our church.There will be a WATTS Team meeting, October 27th at 7pm in room 102. The meeting is to get a team together to organize the week WATTS clients are staying at our church. If you have any questions contact Denny or Kathy Lewis at 662-4905 or kathyndenny@comcast.net .

WATTS Half-Marathon
November 8th; 8:00 am, starting at the Kernstown Battlefield. Organized by the Frederick County Parks and Recreation and has loads of corporate sponsors to under write the cost of the event giving WATTS a nice contribution. WATTS needs to provide 150 volunteers to do everything from registration, giving out tee shirts, handing out the goodie bags, working the water stations, giving out medals to the finishers, and cleanup. Friday, November 7th volunteers needed: staff the registration desk. Most shifts are for three to four hours and the last shift will be finished by 2:00 PM. Trunk or Treating
Trunk or Treating will be held Oct. 26th from 1-3pm in the church parking lot and FH - Children's Ministry is sponsoring this event with the help from all who will open their trunk, and treat these little tricksters. Please sign up, at least 10 cars are needed to proceed with this event. Donations are excepted in the containers located downstairs by the elevator and upstairs under the coat rack.

Music Sign-Up
Sign-up sheets for the 2014-15 VOCAL and BELL choirs are located on the bulletin board beside the nursery! Looking forward to great year of Excellent Sacred Music!!...Also, congratulations to the Paramount Winds Quintet (principal members of the Symphony of the Valley) for the great concert Sunday, August 10!

MAMA Meals
There are about thirty children in the first and second grades at Middletown Elementary school whose adult family members work during the day on weekends. These young ones are provided with backpack lunches by those who are interested in helping. This is known as the MAMA Project. The boys and girls have backpacks. Needed are easy open cans or plastic containers such as tuna fish, spam, soup, Chef Boyardee products, and fruit, ect. Crackers and cookies are useful also. Food items can be left in room 20

Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday School - "True Spirituality" is being held in room 102. This is a 13 week study, one week intro and 12 weeks video series by Chip Ingram. Fred Fonville has a few copies of the study guide left and there is also a book by the same title. This is a study on the Christian life based on Romans 12, which Chip sees as a summary of the first 11 chapters of Romans. Dale Sigler will be facilitating the class. Come join us!

Pastor's Bible Study
"The Book of Acts" - beginning Wednesday, September 3rd which will continue throughout the school year. There will be two identical sessions: one at 10:00 am (room 200) and one at 6:00 pm (room 213). Each class will include video and lecture portions to help all understand the scripture lesson. This is open to all members and guests.

Emergency Fund
Homemade jams made by Deborah Phillips are now being sold with proceeds going to the emergency fund. Flavors include peach, blueberry, strawberry, and cherry at a suggested price of $4/jar. (Also, if anyone has empty jam jars, I would love to have them.)A donation going to the emergency fund is being asked for the Aloe plants.

Facility/Room Request
A Friendly Reminder - Any time there is a need to use the facility for any reason, a request form is to be filled-out in advance, put in the admin box (on the secretary's desk) to be approved by the Trustees, then pencilled in on the office calendar and input on the webpage calendar.

Kitchen Clean-up
With the many groups in our Church that utilize our kitchen, the Trustees ask that you share in the cleaning and maintenance of it. The Trustees are asking that groups of 3, 4, or more people work together to get this much needed job accomplished once a month. On the bulletin board is a sign-up sheet and the office has the list of tasks to be performed. For information contact Marty Dilg at 540-869-4813 or mdilg1@comcast.net.

UMW Information
UMW Phoebe Circle - meets the 4th Thursday of the month at 12:30pm in room 102. Bring a sandwich/salad the rest will be provided including a program. First timers always welcome. Call Pat Konschak at 869-1384 for more information. Hope to see you there!

Preschool Applications
Preschool applications are being accepted for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children. Please pick up an application in the church Gathering Area or go to the online registration on SCUMC website. The preschool offers 2, 3, 4 and 5 day programs. A music program has been added to the preschool curriculum. Students also attend chapel with Pastor Bob.
